You’re Invited to Oktubafest!

October 25, 2023 Landry French

Of all the instruments in a band, none may be more distinctive than the tuba. Oktubafest is a celebration of the tuba (and euphonium; technically a tuba!) first started by Harvey “Mr. Tuba” Phillips at Indiana University in 1973. Swiftly spreading across the nation’s universities, Hardin-Simmons University will celebrate its 17th annual Oktubafest this month.

The Oktubafest will be performed at Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall on October 30th at 7:30 p.m. The performance will include a wide variety of genres, from rock to jazz. The student musicians will be led by expert tubist Dr. Jeffrey Cottrell, who will also perform.

Be sure to drop by and watch the concert; it will be an experience that is not tuba missed!
